Hide and Seek is a Canadian thriller directed by Sidney J. Furie , which was produced in 2000 .

The married couple Anne and Jack White are professionally successful. After the second attempt at artificial insemination , Anne is pregnant. The childless couple, Helen and Frank, kidnap the pregnant woman because Helen can no longer get pregnant after an abortion. They fake a car accident, Anne is pronounced dead. The kidnapper couple is after the unborn child: After the birth, the mother is to be killed. The kidnappers make the mother-to-be believe that Helen's fertilized egg was implanted in the women's clinic where Frank works. Anne vacillates between rebellion and resignation. But the psychopathic kidnapper duo also have violent arguments: Frank is killed by his wife Helen. As he dies, he reveals to Anne that she is carrying her own child and not another. Anne's husband, Jack, has since started investigating but is knocked unconscious by Helen. After an unsuccessful attempt to escape, Anne overpowers Helen in a fight and kills her. The battered married couple and the newborn are transported away by the rescue service.

  • Ryan Cracknell wrote in the Apollo Guide that Jennifer Tilly played the psychopathic Helen great , but could not save the film from mediocrity. He compared the play of Tilly with the portrayal of Kathy Bates in Misery .
