Bernard Terry "Bernie" Casey (born June 8, 1939 in Wyco , West Virginia , † September 19, 2017 in Los Angeles ) was an American actor and previously American football player.
Life
Casey first attended Columbus East High School and graduated from Bowling Green State University with a Bachelor of Fine Arts . During his studies he played on the American football team at the university and competed in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) in hurdles . He took part in the 1960 Olympiatrials but failed to qualify.
After graduating, Casey became a professional football player in the National Football League (NFL) and played for the San Francisco 49ers from 1961 to 1966 . A season for the Los Angeles Rams followed . Out of season, he continued his studies and eventually got a Masters degree .
Casey began his acting career in Revenge of the Magnificent Seven , the second sequel to The Magnificent Seven . He then starred in a number of blaxploitation films, including A Case for Cleopatra Jones . However, he did not allow himself to be pigeonholed and subsequently played in a wide variety of genres, for example in the science fiction film The Man Who Fell From Heaven with David Bowie , in comedies like Spies Like Us and action films like And Again 48 Hours . In 1983 he played Felix Leiter in the unofficial James Bond film Never Never Say With Sean Connery in the title role. In the comedy I'm Gonna Git You Sucka by Keenen Ivory Wayans he caricatured himself as a former football pro who was an actor. In addition, he appeared in various television series as a guest star and played in the mini-series Roots - The Next Generations . His acting work includes more than 70 productions. He last appeared in 2007.
Casey was also active as a painter and poet.
