Life

Miles Dale's father is the British jazz musician Jimmy Dale, who came to Canada at the age of 13 and accompanied Peter Appleyard on a tour. In the 1960s his father became musical director of CBC Television, and in 1968 his family moved to Hollywood, where he worked as music director for shows such as The Smothers Brothers Show , The Andy Williams Show, and The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour . Miles Dale says about the time there: “The years we lived in Hollywood really de-mystified the celebrity culture for me. It wouldn't be out of the ordinary for me to come home from school and find the Osmond brothers working in the living-room with my dad, so I have never really been too star-struck. " In the mid-1970s, his family moved back to Toronto , where Miles Dales graduated from Jarvis Collegiate. He then attended the University of Toronto and the University of British Columbia for one year each before dropping out of his studies and deciding to go straight into the film industry.

He worked as an errand boy on the television show Bizarre , hosted by John Byner, but this gave him the opportunity to learn the film business from the ground up. This was followed by collaboration in the production of television series such as Friday the 13th , Top Cops and RoboCop: The Series . In 2006 he was executive producer on Hollywoodland, starring Ben Affleck. Other films with Dale as executive producer include Scott Pilgrim Vs. The Rest of the World , The Thing and The Vow .

The first film produced by Dale was Timing by Eric Weinthal from 1985. In 2003 he produced Blizzard by LeVar Burton and in 2013 mum to Andrés Muschietti , who became a financial success. In August 2017, the Dale-produced film Shape of Water by Guillermo del Toro celebrated its premiere at the Venice Film Festival , which would later win the Oscar for Best Picture . In 2018 he was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.

Dale has worked occasionally as a television director since the mid-1990s.
