Gregg Landaker

Gregg Wayne Landaker (born June 26, 1951 in Los Angeles ) is an American sound engineer who has won four Oscar for best sound and three more times the British Academy Film Award (BAFTA Award) for best sound .

Life

Landaker began his career as a sound engineer in the Hollywood film industry in 1979 for the film Nutcracker Fantasy and has worked on the creation of over 190 films to date.

He won his first Oscar for best sound at the 1981 Academy Awards with Bill Varney , Steve Maslow and Peter Sutton for the film The Empire Strikes Back (1980), the fifth part of Star Wars . In 1982 he won his second Oscar in this category for Raiders of the Lost Ark (1981), also with Varney and Maslow and Roy Charman .

In 1992 he was nominated for this Oscar for JFK - Tatort Dallas (1991) with Michael Minkler and Tod A. Maitland and won his first BAFTA Film Award for the sound in this film together with Maitland, Wylie Stateman , Michael D. Wilhoit and Michael Minkler for the best sound.

For the film Speed (1994) he won the 1995 Academy Award for Best Sound with Steve Maslow, Bob Beemer and David MacMillan as well as the BAFTA Film Award for Best Sound with Stephen Hunter Flick , Maslow, Beemer and MacMillan. In addition, he was nominated with Maslow, Beemer and MacMillan for Ton in Speed and for the Cinema Audio Society Prize , the so-called CAS Award.

Another nomination for an Oscar for best sound followed with Maslow and Keith A. Wester in 1996 for Waterworld (1995) as well as in 1997 with Maslow, Kevin O'Connell and Geoffrey Patterson for Twister (1996). He was also nominated for another CAS Award for Outstanding Achievement for Sound in a Film with Maslow, O'Connell and Patterson for Twister .

Landaker was also nominated for the Oscar for best sound for U-571 , on the one hand with Maslow, Rick Kline and Ivan Sharrock at the 2001 Academy Awards , on the other hand with the three aforementioned also for another CAS Award.

Most recently, he received an Oscar at the 2018 Academy Awards for the film Dunkirk . His work includes more than 200 productions.

His brother, the elder Alan Landaker , works as a camera technician.
