Roy Charman

Roy Charman (born May 31, 1930 in London Borough of Wandsworth , † October 4, 1990 in Hillingdon , Middlesex ) was a British sound engineer .

Life

Charman began his career in the mid-1950s as a sound assistant , until the mid-1960s regularly without naming his name in the credits. In 1966 he worked on John Frankenheimer's racing film Grand Prix for the first time as a sound engineer, and was subsequently involved in numerous blockbusters . He worked four times with Blake Edwards (including Inspector Clouseau - The crazy Flic with the hot look ) and on the first three Superman film adaptations with Christopher Reeve in the title role. In 1976 he was nominated for the first Oscar in the category Best Sound for The Wind and the Lion . A second nomination came in 1979 for Superman . The third nomination in 1982 for Steven Spielberg's adventure film Raiders of the Lost Ark won him an Oscar along with Bill Varney , Steve Maslow and Gregg Landaker . A fourth and final Oscar nomination came in 1987 for Aliens - The Return . Charman was also nominated three times for the BAFTA Film Award nomination in the Best Sound category, but never won the award.

Charman died in 1990 at the age of 60 years, posthumously was Todo por la pasta , the last film with his participation, published.
