action

Only accompanied by his son Nicholas, the British diplomat Harrington Brande, after his wife has left him, takes on a new challenge in Spain in the hope of advancing his career. But the post there, the supposed new life opportunity in a new country, soon turned out to be a great disappointment for him. His career stagnated. His son Nicholas, however, sees it all as some kind of adventure and quickly makes friends with the new gardener Jose. As Nicholas spends more and more time with Jose, the father is hit hard by the subjective loss of his son's affection. He forbids Nicholas to talk to the gardener. As tensions rise and another servant accuses Jose of theft, everyone involved reveals their true characters.

Reviews

“A selfish diplomat tries to prevent the friendship between his son and the house gardener out of pride and jealousy. Film adaptation of a novel by AJ Cronin, in which the subliminal homoerotic component of the conflict is excluded. Instead, a neat stirring piece is offered. "
