Christopher Challis

Christopher "Chris" Challis (born March 18, 1919 in London , † May 31, 2012 in Bristol ) was a British cameraman .

Life

Christopher Challi's career in the film business began in the mid-1940s as a camera operator for the directors Michael Powell and Emeric Pressburger , for whom he later also worked as a cameraman. During the Second World War he worked as a cameraman for the Royal Air Force and gained his first experience there. His first film as a cameraman was Adventure in Brazil from 1947. He worked several times with the director Guy Hamilton , for example on the 1982 literary film Evil Under the Sun.

In his career, Challis was nominated four times for the British Film Academy Award , in 1967 he was awarded the prize in the category Best British Cinematography (Color) for his work on the film Arabesque .

From 1962 to 1964 he was President of the British Society of Cinematographers (BSC).
