The Lucky One (Original title: The Lucky One ) is an American drama from 2012 . It is the literary film adaptation of the bestseller of the same name by Nicholas Sparks with Zac Efron in the leading role.

action

US Marines Sergeant Logan Thibault returns from his assignment in Iraq. He is convinced that the portrait of a woman he does not know saved his life. He finds out that the woman's name is Beth and that she runs a kennel with her grandmother Charlotte. There he takes a job as a laborer without telling Beth the real reason for his coming. Beth distrusts him at first and has her problems with him. But it doesn't take long and they fall in love.

But love is threatened by Logan's secret and Beth's unstable ex-husband, who works as a policeman in the small town. He never misses an opportunity to demonstrate his power to Beth. So he asks her to send Logan away, because otherwise he would ensure that he gets sole custody of their son Ben due to his relationships. She accepts this threat and separates from Logan. Charlotte, on the other hand, who is on Beth's side and immediately noticed that Logan is good for her, tells her to fight and not to put up with everything. She does, stands up to her ex-husband and brings Logan back. Since her son gets along well with Logan, her luck seems perfect.

Beth and Logan enjoy being in love, but when Keith finds out that Logan was specifically looking for Beth, he denounces Logan to his ex-wife, who now thinks he is a stalker . However, she also gives him the chance to justify himself, and so he talks to her about his experiences in the war: After an attack, he would have found Beth's photo by chance, this portrait of the young woman looked like an angel in hell. So he survived situations that seemed hopeless, and so he vowed to thank the woman for unwittingly saving his life. Beth's brother, who had not returned from the Iraq war, lost the photo. Despite this explanation, Beth breaks up with Logan. In addition, he is provoked by Keith, who insults him badly and even threatens him with his service weapon. Instead of defending himself, Logan confidently takes the challenge. Keith, on the other hand, does not endure this humiliation and threatens Beth at the next opportunity. Her son Ben can't see it and runs out of the house. Since a storm is raging, his life is in danger. Logan, who joins them, can rescue the boy from the river he fell into. Keith, however, who also wanted to help his son, perishes in the floods. Beth makes up with Logan and asks him to stay with her forever.

criticism

Kino.de came to the conclusion: “This latest film adaptation of a Nicholas Sparks bestseller is a moving, bittersweet drama and love story, which has alreadyprovided the templates for ' Message in a Bottle ' and ' The Shine of Silence '. Here the Oscar-nominated director Scott Hicks staged the girl crush Zac Efron as the attractive leading actor for “Shine - The Way to Light”. A promising combination. "

cineman.ch judged: “With Shine or Snow Falling on Cedars, director Taylor Hicks has demonstrated a talent for drama, but even he cannot turn this shallow model into a profound masterpiece. The Lucky One is immersed in the great atmosphere of rural Lousiana. But all the visual poetry doesn't hide the strange cast. "

Lena Kettner from Kinozeit.de said: "On the way to the predictable Hollywood happy ending, this film leaves no cliché."

In the Wessels film review , Antje Wessels wrote : “Let's not kid ourselves: basically,“ The Lucky One - Forever Yours ”is the Hollywood version of any Rosamunde Pilcher film. Every week a look at the television newspaper proves that this genre is booming ”. “The story works according to the scheme F, which all Sparks films follow” and “in all of us there is more or less a thirst for kitsch and thus entertains in a really cheap and predictable way. Because the difference between Sparks' romances and other romantic fare from Hollywood is simple: his films, including the one discussed here, try to instill in the viewer the feelings that the protagonist couple feels in the respective scenery. With the help of precisely applied music and intrusive play of colors and light, even the less romantic-loving viewer understands when and how to find which scenery. "
