Blythe Katherine Danner (born February 3, 1943 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania ) is an American actress of German descent .

Life

Blythe Danner went to George School in Newtown, Pennsylvania . In 1965 she studied at Bard College and began her career in Boston at the theater . At age 25, Blythe won a Theater World Award for her role in Molière's The Miser at Lincoln Center . In 1970 she received a Tony Award for her role in the play Butterflies are Free of Leonard Gershe . She became known through films such as 1974 For Love for Molly , 1976 Futureworld - The Land of Tomorrow and 1980 The Great Santini at the side of Robert Duvall .

From 1969 until his death in 2002 she was married to the film and television producer Bruce Paltrow . Their daughter, actress Gwyneth Paltrow , was born on September 27, 1972 , and their son, film director Jake Paltrow , was born on September 26, 1975 . She is also the aunt of actress Katherine Moennig .
