András Benkei

András Benkei (born September 11, 1923 in Nyíregyháza , † August 13, 1991 in Budapest ) was a Hungarian communist politician .

András Benkei was born in 1923 as the son of a day laborer. In August 1944 he was called up for military service and was taken prisoner of war by the Soviets in January 1945 . In 1950 he joined the Hungarian Working People's Party , which was succeeded by the Hungarian Socialist Workers' Party .

From 1959 to 1985 he was a member of the party's central committee . From December 3, 1963 to April 24, 1980 he held the office of Minister of the Interior.
