Stephen Hunter Flick
Stephen Hunter Flick (born June 21, 1949 in Evanston , Illinois ) is a two Academy Award-winning American sound engineer .
Life
Flick received his bachelor's degree from San José State University and attended the film school of the University of Southern California from 1973 to 1975 . In 1977 he began his career as an assistant sound engineer with the western The Shadow of Chikara with Joe Don Baker and Sondra Locke in the lead roles. He was responsible for the sound effects for productions such as the horror film Amityville Horror and the adventure film Raiders of the Lost Ark . Flick has been working as a sound engineer since the early 1980s. In 1983 he was nominated for the first Oscar in the category Best Sound Editing for Poltergeist . Four more nominations followed by 1988, for RoboCop (1988) and Speed (1995) he won the award. At the British Academy Film Awards 1995 he was nominated for Best Sound for both Pulp Fiction and Speed ; for the latter he received the award. Flick was also nominated three times for the Primetime Emmy , in 2004 he received the award for the television series Deadwood .
Flick also directs commercials and has made commercials for Dos Equis , among others .
