Gerd Nefzer

Gerd Nefzer (* 5. July 1965 in Schwäbisch Hall as Gerd Moist ) is a German special effects artist . In 2018 he won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects in Blade Runner 2049, along with John Nelson , Paul Lambert and Richard R. Hoover .

Life

Gerd Nefzer studied agricultural engineering and initially worked as a farmer.

In the 1980s, Nefzer joined the company Nefzer Special Effects , which was founded by his father-in-law Karl Nefzer in 1968 in Schwäbisch Hall, Baden-Württemberg, as a rental company for film cars and weapons. Together with his father-in-law and his son Uli Nefzer , he built up the company's special effects division. After the fall of the Wall in 1989 , a branch was founded in Potsdam . The Nefzer Babelsberg GmbH is a 50% subsidiary of Studio Babelsberg resident and at his film studio in Babelsberg.

At the end of June 2018, Nefzer became a member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences .
