Lisa Bruce
Lisa Bruce (* Monterey , California , United States ) is an American film producer .
Early life and education
Lisa Bruce was born in Monterey . Her parents were Mary Ann and George W. Bruce. She was one of five children. When she was in middle school , she and her family moved from Monterey to Coronado because of her father's job in the United States Navy as a command officer on the USS Ticonderoga and USS St. Louis . As a teenager, Bruce worked at a local movie theater where her brother paid her $ 1 an hour to mop the floor; she joked that it was her first job in the movie business.
Bruce went to Coronado High School where she made short films. She then went to the University of California, Santa Barbara , graduating in 1983 with a degree in film , sociology and politics .
Career
Bruce began working as a film producer in 1992 when she founded the Orenda Films production company with Robert Nickson - her NYU professor and mentor - and produced the film Pen Pals .
Bruce was the producer of The Discovery of Infinity , a film about physicist Stephen Hawking's first marriage to Jane Hawking , whose wedding took place in 1965. Bruce has been on the project since 2009 when she teamed up with filmmaker Anthony McCarten , who began the venture back in 2004. The Discovery of Infinity has been nominated for an Oscar , five Golden Globes and ten British Academy Film Awards .
In 2018 she was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.
