Rachel Shenton (born December 21, 1987 in Stoke-on-Trent , Staffordshire , England ) is a British film actress and screenwriter .

Career

Shenton's acting career began in 2005 on the television series Holby City . In 2011, she began playing the role of Mitzeee Minniber on the British television series Hollyoaks . In 2011 she was awarded for her entry in this television series, a nomination at the TV Choice Awards as "Best Newcomer", but the award was Paula Lane of Kylie Platt in the television series for its entry and performance in the individual roles Coronation Street passed . Shenton also played the same role in the spin-off Hollyoaks Later for 15 episodes before leaving the main series after 235 episodes in 2013. In 2014 she played the role of Lily Summers in the US television series Switched at Birth in 19 episodes until 2017.

Shenton and Chris Overton won an Oscar in the Best Short Film category at the 2018 Academy Awards for The Silent Child , for which she wrote the screenplay and starred. At other film festivals she received ten awards for her performance in this film. Also in 2018 she was appointed to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences , which awards the Oscars every year.
