Debra Chasnoff

Debra Chasnoff (born October 12, 1957 in Philadelphia , United States , † November 7, 2017 in San Francisco , California ) was an American documentary filmmaker and Oscar winner.

Live and act

Debra Chasnoff, who came from a Jewish family, grew up in the suburbs of Washington, DC and began studying at Wellesley College , from which she graduated in 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts . After moving to Boston , Chasnoff began to get involved in numerous social issues as well as human rights and environmental issues. She wrote articles for small publications and joined the anti-nuclear movement. As an avowed lesbian , she was also involved in all matters to enforce the law of the LGBT community.

Chasnoff's work as a documentary filmmaker reflected her attitudes towards all questions in life. In 1984 she presented her first documentary with Choosing Children . Seven years later, Deadly Deception - General Electric, Nuclear Weapons and Our Environment, a 27-minute short documentary. He showed the harmful effects on human health and the environment caused by the manufacture of nuclear material by the General Electric company . This film earned Debra Chasnoff an Oscar in 1992 for Best Documentary Short Film . Her later productions also testified to Chasnoff's political commitment and brought her several film awards.

Debra Chasnoff died of breast cancer shortly after she turned 60 .
