Elaine McMillion Sheldon (* 1988 as Elaine McMillion in Logan County , West Virginia ) is an American journalist , film producer , film director and film editor in the field of documentary films .

Career

McMillion attended West Virginia University for a BS in Journalism . She then attended Emerson College , where she did her Master of Fine Arts in fine arts. As a journalist, she has worked for The Huffington Post , Los Angeles Times , New York Times and The Washington Post, among others .

Her career in the film business began in 2011 with the documentary Lincoln County Massacre , where she made her directorial debut. In 2013, McMillion Sheldon released the documentary Hollow , produced with the help of Kickstarter.com , in which 530 backers donated a total of $ 28,788. This film won a Peabody Award at the 2013 Peabody Awards .

For her documentary film Heroin (e) , she and her husband Kerrin Sheldon , they have been married since 2013, received an Oscar nomination in the category “ Best Documentary Short ” at the 2018 Academy Awards . The film was released on Netflix on September 12, 2017 . However, the Oscar award went to Frank Stiefel for his contribution Heaven Is a Traffic Jam on the 405 .
