Drawing Restraint is an art / experimental film directed by Matthew Barney . He plays on the Japanese whaling - factory ship Nisshin Maru . In the entire film (135 min.) There is only one dialogue during the tea ceremony in Japanese that explains the history of the ship. A sculpture made of petroleum jelly can be seen on board , which changes several times during the film.

Film screenings

The first showing outside of Japan was at the Venice Film Festival on September 2, 2005 .

Drawing Restraint is an art exhibition by Matthew Barney with sculpture, video, installations, performance and drawings. It was exhibited in Japan until October 2005, after which it was shown in Seoul and Korea, and subsequently in San Francisco in spring 2006 .

Soundtrack

The soundtrack was composed by the Icelandic musician Björk , Barney's partner; Björk and Barney wrote the lyrics. The soundtrack was created in collaboration with many other artists, including Mark Bell , Valgeir Sigursson , Will Oldham , Zeena Parkins and Leila .
