Pram (band)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Pram is a musical group formed in 1990 in the Balsall Heath / Moseley region of Birmingham , England .

Originally from Yorkshire , Rosie Cuckston and Matt Eaton went to school together. Together with drummer Andy Weir, the three moved to Birmingham in the late 1980s . A chance meeting of Rosie Cuckston and Sam Owen on a singles night in a local supermarket gave the starting signal for this idiosyncratic band . They began performing for the first time in 1988 under the name Hole. The only sources of sound were their eerie voices and a self-made theremin . Multi-instrumentalist Matt Eaton joined them later . Keyboard and sampler player Max Simpson expanded the band, with Sam Owen playing bass and Andy Weir on drums.

With their self-produced first release, Gash, they caught the attention of Too Pure Records , a label that already had artists like Stereolab , Mouse on Mars and PJ Harvey under contract, and released several increasingly demanding albums and EPs there between 1993 and 1995 .
