Sebadoh is an independent band from Massachusetts , USA . Together with Pavement and Guided by Voices , the band, founded in 1986, is considered one of the pioneers of lo-fi .
history
Sebadoh was originally a side project of Lou Barlow , the bassist of Dinosaur Jr. So the first recordings were released as a supplement to the band's second album. After Barlow left Dinosaur in 1989, Sebadoh quickly developed into an independent band. With recordings in the home recording process, she quickly became a pioneer of the lo-fi movement that was emerging in the early 1990s: the simplest recording technique , folk , experimental psychedelic rock , concentration on songwriting and melodies .
The almost inexhaustible repertoire is worth mentioning : according to his own account, Barlow writes around 200 songs a year. In the New York Times , he stated:
"I think we write to exorcise our demons, but as far as my lyrics go, I'm a total exhibitionist."
After the album The Sebadoh (1999) Barlow concentrated on his project Folk Implosion . In 2007 there was a reunion tour of Sebadoh in the USA. In 2011 the albums Bakesale and Harmacy were re-released. Drummer Eric Gaffney was replaced by Bob D'Amico, who already played with Jason Loewenstein in the bands Circle of Buzzards and Fiery Furnaces .
In July 2012 there was another sign of life for the band: as a foretaste of a new album to be released in 2013, Secret EP was released with five new songs.
Trivia
The first album by the German band Sharon Stoned , License To Confuse , is named after the opening track of the album Bakesale . Both albums were released in 1994.
