Anna Calvi (born September 24, 1980 in Twickenham , London ) is a British pop musician of Italian origin.

life and work

Anna Calvi, whose father is from Italy , began to learn to play the violin at the age of six and has been playing the guitar since she was eight . In the early 2000s she studied music at the University of Southampton . Since 2006 she has performed as a musician, first with the band Cheap Hotel , later as a solo artist, sometimes with her own backing band. In 2009/10 she was tour support for Johnny Franklin , for the Arctic Monkeys and for Nick Cave , and in 2014 for Morrissey . This year she also got her favorite guitar, a Fender Telecaster , with which she currently prefers to perform solo.

In 2010, the lead guitarist of The Coral , Bill Ryder-Jones, gave her a record deal with Domino Records . Even Brian Eno was a mentor of Calvi.

Calvi released her first single Jezebel in October 2010. The album Anna Calvi followed in January 2011. The tracks Blackout , Desire and Suzanne and I were released as singles from the album . On their phonograms and in their live performances, Calvi takes over the singing and guitar playing. In October 2013, the second album One Breath was released , which is said to be more intimate than its predecessor. This was preceded by the single Eliza in August 2013 as a download or 7 "vinyl single. It was not until five years later that she released a third studio album: Hunter , after releasing a live album in 2017 with Live At Meltdown .
