James Skelly formed the band in 1996 in Hoylake , Merseyside with a few friends from his neighborhood.

They toured England for years and earned a loyal audience with their unusual mix of rock , fusion and folk music.

This is how the musician Alan Wills became aware of The Coral and founded the label Deltasonic Records especially to be able to sign the group. In 2002 the first album The Coral was released .

The band has now released eight albums. Their music has been featured in many television series such as Scrubs , which is why The Coral has a certain degree of popularity in the USA .

On January 9, 2008 it was announced that Bill Ryder-Jones had left the band, but that the five of them would continue to make music.
