The International Music Award is a music prize from the Axel Springer Mediahouse Berlin. It was first presented by Rolling Stone on November 22, 2019 in the Verti Music Hall in Berlin . Artists are honored who show attitude and innovative strength and thus shape the sounds of tomorrow. The IMA is awarded in nine categories. The winners are determined by an international panel of musicians, artists and experts.

Panel and board

The IMA is curated by a panel and a board. The selection panel includes international and national artists as well as music experts from various genres. The 2019 panel includes: Liam Gallagher , Charli XCX , Adam Green , Joy Denalane , Chilly Gonzales , Joan As Police Woman , SOHN , Benjamin von Stuckrad-Barre , Lianne La Havas , Cro , Frank Spilker , Sarah Farina, Carl Craig , Bonaparte , Drangsal , Meret Becker , Rufus Wainwright , Faber , Mille Petrozza and Malakoff Kowalski .

You choose artists in the six categories “Commitment”, “Style”, “Future”, “Sound”, “Visuals” and “Beginner” on the respective shortlist. In addition, there will be an open public voting in the “Performance” category and a “Hero” prize for life's work.

The basis of the panel decisions is a longlist for each category, which was created by the editors of Musikexpress , Metal Hammer and Rolling Stone. The panel will select three from the eight artists who are on the respective longlist for each category. The artists nominated in this way then form the shortlists from which the board made up of renowned international journalists determines the award winners.
