Lianne La Havas (* 23. August 1989 in London , England ) is an English folk - and soul - singer , songwriter , guitarist and pianist .
biography
The daughter of a Jamaican and a Greek was born in London. Her musical role models include Lauryn Hill , Jill Scott and Mary J. Blige . She learned to play the piano at an early age, wrote her first song at the age of eleven and learned to play the guitar at the age of 18. She has been in the music business since 2009.
As a background singer, she accompanied Paloma Faith on tour. She gained her first band experience in the short-lived project “The Paris Parade” with Christian Pinchbeck. In 2010 she got a training contract with the major label Warner and the artist agency CAA. In 2011 La Havas gained attention through two appearances on the Internet: in the “Black Cab Sessions” and in the “Take Away Show” of the French “Blogothèque”.
In October 2011 she performed three of her songs on the BBC television show Later with Jools Holland . The same show saw the band Bon Iver , who signed Lianne La Havas for their North American tour in December 2011. At the end of 2011 she was nominated for the BBC's Newcomer Award Sound of 2012 .
In July 2012 her debut album Is Your Love Big Enough? , which was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize and was named iTunes Album of the Year. The album reached number 4 in the UK charts and number 3 in the Netherlands.
La Havas worked with Prince and is a guest singer on his albums Art Official Age (2014) and HITnRUN Phase One (2015).
She is currently - together with Alessia Cara - as the lead singer of the British band Coldplay, which is on a world tour.
