The Benjamin Sheares Bridge is a highway bridge in Singapore and at 1,855 meters, the longest bridge in the city-state. It is an important part of the East Coast Parkway , which connects Singapore Airport with the business district. It crosses the Marina Channel , which is located shortly after the confluence of the Singapore River in Marina Bay on the border of the Downtown Core and Marina East planning areas . The Benjamin Sheares Bridge leads from the east first over the mouth of the Kallang River into the Marina Center district , where there is a junction , describes a curve there to the south and then continues over the eastern part of Marina Bay. The clear height of the bridge is 20 m here, in order to enable larger boats to access the marina .

The bridge was named after Benjamin Sheares , the second president of Singapore, during whose tenure it was built from 1977 to 1981 for 177 million Singapore dollars . As the national symbol of Singapore, the bridge was also featured on the $ 50 note from the third series of banknotes.

Since 2008, the Benjamin Sheares Bridge leads in the field of boxing equipment total of four times on the new Marina Bay Street Circuit of Formula 1 .
