Yvonne Danson

Yvonne Margaret Danson (born May 22, 1959 in London ) is a Singaporean marathon runner of British origin.

In 1991 and 1992 she won the Singapore Marathon . In 1993 she was third in the Beijing Marathon , and in 1994 she won bronze for England at the Commonwealth Games in Victoria in 2:32:24 h. In 1995 she was fifth in the Boston Marathon with her personal best of 2:30:53 h.

She first represented Singapore at the 1995 Southeast Asian Games in Chiang Mai after marrying former Singaporean marathon record holder Tan Choon Ghee. She took bronze over 10,000 m with the current national record of 36: 27.39 minutes. In the marathon, which took place two days later, she was the first to reach the stadium, but mistakenly ran only one lap instead of two. When she realized her mistake, she had already been overtaken by Indonesian Ruwiyati , who in turn defended her lead at the finish. Danson won silver with the current Singaporean record of 2:34:41 h.

At the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, she came in 38th place.

On March 2, 1997, she set another national record in Singapore over 5000 m with 17: 35.3 minutes, which is still in place today.
