Patrick Stitzinger (born August 25, 1981 in Maastricht ) is a former Dutch long-distance runner .

Life

Patrick Stitzinger started running at the Maastricht sports club AV '34 at the age of 12 after winning a school competition. At the same time he was still a hooligan in the ultra-movement of MVV Maastricht and was once banned from the stadium at the football derby against Fortuna Sittard . By moving away from the Maastricht district of Wittevrouwenveld, where he grew up, and with the help of his girlfriend Susan, he managed to leave the ultra scene. From then on he devoted himself entirely to athletics. Patrick Stitzinger later married Susan and had two children with her.

When his previous club AV '34 in Atletiek Maastricht went up, Patrick Stitzinger switched to ADRT Pegasus from Venlo and trained under the multiple Dutch champion Sander Schutgens , later under Carel van Nisselroy. On January 14, 2007 he made his half marathon debut at the Egmond Half Marathon , on October 18, 2009 he ran his first marathon at the Amsterdam Marathon with integrated Dutch championships in a personal best of 2:15:01 h.

In his career, Patrick Stitzinger took part in competitions in Germany several times. At the sports festival in Troisdorf on August 31, 2002 he ran the 10,000 m in 29: 53.88 minutes and took 5th place, at the Askina sports festival on June 13, 2003 in Kassel , he finished over 5000 m in 14: 29.19 min 17th place. In 2005 he started over 10 km in the street races Korschenbroicher City-Lauf (April 10, 30:07 min, 16th place) and Kö-Lauf in Düsseldorf (September 4th, 29:34 min, 5th place).

The following year, Patrick Stitzinger ran out of valuation starting at the German Athletics Championships 2006 on May 6, 2006 in Tübingen, the 10,000 m in 28: 44.74 min and took part again on June 8, 2006 at the Askina Sports Festival, where he over 5000 m in 14: 26.84 min reached 16th place. At the end of the year he achieved third place in the Trier New Year's Eve run .

In 2007 he started twice over 3000 m in Germany: On May 28, 2007 at the Whitsun Sports Festival in Rehlingen (15th place, 8: 11.61 min) and on August 12, 2007 in Wattenscheid (7th place, 7: 56.09 min , personal best). Other participations in German competitions were again in 2008 in the Korschenbroich City Run (April 13, 29:25 min, 4th place) and in 2009 in the Mini-International in Koblenz . There he was able to run the 3rd place on May 20th over 5000 m with a time of 2:00 p.m. In 2010 he reached 7th place in the Korschenbroich City Run over 10 km with 29:50 minutes on April 18, and a time of 28:57 out of valuation at the German Athletics Championships 2010 on May 1 in Ohrdruf over 10,000 m, 52 min. As in the 2006 DM, he crossed the finish line in fourth place.

Also in 2010 and 2011, Patrick Stitzinger ran again at the Trier New Year's Eve run, but was unable to repeat his 2006 podium success with fourth and ninth place. This was followed by the German Athletics Championships 2012 over 10,000 m on May 5, 2012 in Marburg with another finish in fourth place and a repeated start at the Korschenbroich City Run (April 21, 2013, 10 km, 29:50 min, 15 . Space).

His last competitions on German soil were at the Mini-International on the 5000 m distance in 2013 (May 15, 14:08:09 min, 9th place) and 2014 (May 28, 14:17.77 min, 15 . After Patrick Stitzinger had to stop the Edinburgh Marathon on May 28, 2017 after eighteen kilometers, he ended his career in competitive sports. Before that, he had suffered all sorts of injuries for two years. On June 11, 2017, Patrick Stitzinger was honored and bid farewell in his hometown as part of the Maastrichts Mooiste running competition .
