The event was organized by Heinz Hüsselmann as meeting director and his Bochum agency Performance Promotion GmbH, with whom he started his own business in 1997 as a sports manager. Hüsselmann was previously manager and head coach at TV Wattenscheid as well as a former national sprint coach.

The meeting, which was constantly attended by top German athletes and world-class athletes, was also used as a qualification for international season highlights. Within a few years, the sports festival had developed into a meeting of national and international top athletes and finally belonged to the permit meetings of the European Athletics Association (EAA) .

End of event

In October 2010 there was a fuss about the sports festival because the Hessian Athletics Association (HLV) Heinz Hüsselmann had terminated the cooperation because there had been delays in fee payments to athletes. The approval for Askina 2011 was also tied to the condition that all outstanding payments to athletes had to be settled by January 31, 2011. The final end came in 2012. The DLV did not issue a permit and the city of Kassel had also terminated its cooperation with Hüsselmann and his agency. Payment difficulties also led to the suspension of the other sports festivals organized by Hüsselmann in Biberach and Cuxhaven .

New beginning

On August 23, 2013, PSV Grün-Weiß Kassel again organized a sports festival in order to continue the tradition of the previous sports festival.
