Marek Maria Józef Jaroszewski (born January 1, 1944 in Otwock ) is a Polish Germanist and literary scholar . He is a full professor emeritus at the University of Gdansk .

life and work

Marek Jaroszewski was born as the son of Franciszek Jaroszewski and Stanisława Jaroszewski. Migdalski born. From 1957 he attended general high school No. 33 in Otwock and graduated from high school in 1961. He then studied German at the University of Warsaw until 1966, where he obtained his master's degree . He wrote under the supervision of Elida Maria Szarota his dissertation on ETA Hoffmann's novel Kater Murr and in 1975 a doctorate .

In 1991 he completed his habilitation with a thesis on the Polish November Uprising in contemporary German literature and historiography and was appointed professor in 2007. From 1967–2008 he worked first at the University of Warsaw, then since 1994 at the University of Gdansk, where in 1996/97 he headed the Chair of German Studies and from 1997 to 2002 the German Institute. In 2009 he retired.

His main research interests included modern German literature , German-Polish literary relations, Danzig literature, the reception of German literature in Poland and the history of Polish German studies.

Jaroszewski was the author or co-author of six books and editor or co-editor of twelve individual publications. He also wrote a bibliography , articles and reviews as well as encyclopedic headings.

He took part in congresses, conferences and symposia at home and abroad and gave guest lectures in Germany and Poland. He was the organizer and co-organizer of scientific conferences and congresses. He belonged to the Association of Polish Germanists, the Günter Grass Society in Danzig, the Harro Harring Society, the ETA Hoffmann Society and the International Novalis Society .
