The Internationale Novalisgesellschaft eV is an association to “promote the scientific and artistic examination of the work and personality of Friedrich von Hardenberg ( Novalis )”.

tasks and goals

The association was founded on the occasion of the 220th birthday of the poet on May 2, 1992 in his place of birth, Wiederstedt . One of the goals is to make the work and life of the poet who died young accessible to the public. The society has 400 members all over the world and supports research projects on the life and work of the poet as well as the collection of relevant documents in the research facility at Schloss Oberwiederstedt . It organizes conferences, exhibitions and symposia, organizes events and publishes its own series of publications. All of this is intended to convey early romanticism and early romantic tendencies and to bring them into a scientific and artistic dialogue with the present.

In addition, the recognized non-profit association maintains good contacts with " other literary societies, university institutes and other cultural and educational institutions " (information brochure), including z. B. Schools. The annual meeting always takes place on Novalis' birthday at the beginning of May at Schloss Oberwiederstedt. The annual reports are published in the communications of the International Novalis Society, u. a. together with the lectures, research results, reviews and information about the condition and renovation of the company's headquarters, Oberwiederstedt Castle. Novalis library

The company also supports the “Imaginary Library” project, which is a central component of the research facility for early romanticism : All books that Novalis has received and / or owned should be made available to research in the historical editions. It is not only about literature in the narrower sense, but also about " rare works from the history of the natural sciences " that are sometimes difficult to find today .
