Banchee was an American hard and psychedelic rock band from Long Island , New York , which was founded in 1969 and disbanded in 1971.

history

The band was formed in 1969 and consisted of the singer and guitarist Peter Alongi, the drummer Victor DiGilio, the singer and guitarist Jose "Joey" Miguel deJesus and the singer and bassist Michael Marino. After she had signed a contract with Atlantic Records , the self-titled debut album, produced by Warren Schatz and Stephen Schlaks , was released that same year . Being single is Train of Life / I Just Do not Know decoupled. After switching to Polydor , the second album called Thinkin 'was released in 1971 . DeJesus' cousin Fernando Luis "Papo" Roman is represented as a singer and percussionist. Michael Jeffery was executive producer , while Dave Palmer and Ralph Moss co-produced. Then the band broke up. Alongi died in the mid-1990s. In 2001 both albums were re-released as a compilation on Lizard Records .

style

Richie Unterberger from Allmusic described the group's music as a mixture of psychedelic and hard rock, whose exuberance, however, could not compensate for the lack of focus. The music is a mix of harmonies in the style of David Crosby , Stephen Stills and Graham Nash and hard rock guitars. However, the songs lack proper songwriting or distinctive riffs .

According to badcatrecords.com , the debut album consists of psychedelic rock influences as well as heavy, guitar-driven rock . They also use fuzz on the guitars . In contrast to the previous album, which was written by all members together, the second album was mainly composed by Jose “Joey” Miguel deJesus. A small part was written by Peter Alongi. The group tries to play heavier music on this album than on the previous one. In The International Encyclopedia of Hard Rock and Heavy Metal , the music is referred to as hard rock with excellent guitar work. The music is suitable for fans of more cheerful music as well as for traditional metalheads .

Martin Popoff described Banchee in his book The Collector's Guide of Heavy Metal Volume 1: The Seventies as easily digestible " hippie music" that has little to do with progressive or psychedelic rock. He summed up the music as a toothless version of The Guess Who mixed with hippie folk and accompanying harmonies. On Thinkin ' we had a mixture of hardware and facing psychedelic rock. The album is characterized by groove and vocals that are reminiscent of Ken Hensley 's. The harmonies are still there, but "nasty" riffs and progressive elements keep appearing. he drew comparisons to Toe Fat , early Uriah Heep, and the first Budgie albums. Even then, the music had a comparatively old-fashioned sound, although it was also dark and stylish.
