Magdalena Lewy-Boulet (born August 1, 1973 in Jastrzębie-Zdrój as Magdalena Lewy ) is an American marathon runner of Polish origin.
Career
In 1988 she came to Kiel with her mother and brother to see her father, who had previously emigrated. Three years later the family moved to Long Beach to live with an uncle . She graduated from the University of California, Berkeley California State University, East Bay with a Masters in Exercise Physiology .
In 2001 she finished second in the California International Marathon , and in 2002 she won the Pittsburgh Marathon and the San Francisco Marathon . In 2003 she finished second in Pittsburgh and finished 40th at the World Half Marathon Championships in Vilamoura . In 2004 she finished fifth in the US Olympic Games eliminator .
After a baby break in 2005, she won the 2006 OC Marathon and qualified with a 15th place in the New York City Marathon for the US elimination match for the Beijing Olympic Games , which took place the day before the 2008 Boston Marathon . She surprised the competition by soon taking the lead and running out of almost two minutes. Shortly before the end she was overtaken by the high favorite Deena Kastor , but second place secured a starting place for the Olympic marathon . In Beijing, shortly before the competition, she injured her knee when she hit a seat back on a shuttle bus and had to retire after 20 km. That fall, she finished eleventh in New York City.
In 2009 she was the overall winner of the Houston Marathon Half Marathon, American Champion, second at the San José Half Marathon and sixth in New York City.
At the 2010 Cross Country World Championships she came in 20th and won bronze with the US team. A second place in the Rotterdam Marathon was followed by the title win in the US championship in the 20 km road race and a seventh place in the Chicago Marathon .
The athlete, nicknamed "Chewy" is 1.63 meters tall and weighs 50 kg. She is trained by Jack Daniels. She lives in Oakland with her husband, former middle-distance runner Richard Boulet , where she was an assistant coach at the University of California, Berkeley, until 2009. From 2000 to 2007 she worked as a research director at Sport Street Marketing, the manufacturer of GU Energy Gel, which she still supports today as a sponsor.
In 2015 Magdalena Boulet won the 100 mile Western States Endurance Run in California in 19:05:21 h .
