Jennifer "Jen" Rhines (born July 1, 1974 in Syracuse , New York ) is an American long-distance runner .

As a student at Villanova University , she became NCAA champion in cross-country running in 1994, over 5000 m outdoors from 1994 to 1996 and in 1995 indoors.

In 1998 she won the Jacksonville River Run as the US champion in the 15 km road run . In 2000 she came in 13th place at the World Cross Country Championships in Vilamoura and won bronze with the team. As second in the US eliminations in the 10,000-meter run , she qualified for the Olympic Games in Sydney , in which she was eliminated in the preliminary round. The following year she came at the World Athletics Championships in Edmonton over 10,000 m on the 22nd place.

In 2002 she was twelfth at the Cross Country World Championships in Dublin and won silver with the US team. In the summer she became national champion over 10,000 m. In her debut over the 42.195-km distance, she came in 14th place in the Chicago Marathon .

In 2003 she won the half marathon of the San Diego Marathon and the Falmouth Road Race , was third in the half marathon of the Grandma's Marathon and second in the Philadelphia half marathon . The second start over the full distance was also disappointing with a 17th place in the New York City Marathon .

In the US elimination match for the marathon of the Olympic Games in Athens , she qualified third and improved by more than eleven minutes to 2:29:57 h. In the Olympic marathon she came in 34th.

In 2005 she won again at the Jacksonville River Run. At the World Championships in Helsinki she finished 16th in the 10,000 m and 18th place at the New York City Marathon. In 2006, she was fourth in the Rome Marathon and seventh in the Tokyo International Women's Marathon . As in the previous year, she was second in Jacksonville in 2007, and at the World Championships in Osaka she was seventh in the 5000 m. Over the same distance, she qualified the following year for the Olympic Games in Beijing , where she came in 14th place. In 2009, a ninth place at the World Championships in Berlin followed, also over 5000 m .

In autumn 2010 she returned to road running . She finished third in the Tufts Health Plan 10K for Women . A victory in the half marathon of the Las Vegas Marathon was followed by the title win at the US half marathon championship in early 2011.

Jennifer Rhines is 1.60 m tall and weighs 48 kg. She lives in Mammoth Lakes and is trained by her husband Terence Mahon.
