history

Background and origin

The idea for the Stalker.cd magazine came to the founder Samira Alinto in 2003. Since no publisher could be found for the magazine, she founded Stalker publishing GmbH in the fourth quarter of 2003 together with two other partners. Alinto justified the intention to publish its own magazine as follows:

“The idea behind the print magazine was that I was not satisfied with the existing titles and independence from advertising customers, an international exchange through bi-linguality, a broader range of topics - away from the stereotyped thinking of the other titles - a more appealing appearance in that Genre with a clean layout and a handy pocket format and more attention to images. "

- Samira Alinto

In February 2004, the first edition was published, which, like the two subsequent editions, had a circulation of 50,000 units. The first three issues were distributed as follows: 3000 magazines in Finland , 1500 in Norway , 1500 in Sweden , 1000 in Belgium , 1500 in the Netherlands , 1000 in Luxembourg , 1500 in Switzerland and 2000 in Austria . The remaining 37,000 units in Germany .

After the magazine had established itself in the scene, the price was raised from the original two to three euros from the fourth issue, and the circulation in the respective countries was adjusted so that the following distribution resulted: 3000 magazines in Finland, 500 in Norway, 1000 in Sweden, 500 in Belgium, 1000 in the Netherlands, 500 in Luxembourg, 500 in Switzerland and 2500 in Austria. The remaining 35,000 magazines went to Germany.

From December 2004 the publication cycle was changed to two months due to financial problems. In May 2005 the insolvency of the magazine was filed because the house bank no longer granted any further loans and there were various problems with advertising in the magazine. The last print magazine appeared in July 2005.

From print to online magazine

In December 2004, the CD reviews were moved to the magazine's website in order to have more space for other articles in the print edition, thus making Stalker.cd a webzine . On January 15, 2005, on the occasion of the one-year anniversary of the magazine, a big celebration with a concert took place in the Markthalle Hamburg , at which the bands Anathema , Finntroll , The Skreppers , The Traceelords and Hate Squad performed.

After the bankruptcy, the magazine was originally supposed to be completely discontinued. The Stalker team didn't want to give up the magazine entirely, which is why the previously rarely used web space was converted into an online magazine. In the meantime stalker.cd has established itself well in the scene, so that the site is one of the exclusive partners for reviews of Soulfood and Geenger Records . In addition, the magazine is a partner of Twilight Vertrieb , the promoter GoDownBelieving and other webzines, distributors and promoters.

Since September 2015 there has been a new version of the online magazine called stalker-magazine.rocks under the editor-in-chief Klaudia Weber; the old Stalker.cd page remains as an archive.

content

Stalker.cd presents general music topics such as reviews of CDs, DVDs, books, films and games, interviews , festival reports and features. In addition to normal interviews, there are the sections "Sauna rocker" and "Gibberish", in which the musicians are interviewed in a sauna with beer or simply talk to each other while drunk without the editorial team asking questions. In addition, video interviews were also offered in May 2010 through a cooperation with the former webzine stalkermusic.com and later continued via the STALKER.cd YouTube channel - an expansion of the "Video Stalker" section, which was previously mainly used to present new music videos . There are also the so-called "7 deadly sins" interviews, in which the interviewees, mostly musicians, are asked about their opinion or personal manifestation of the 7 deadly sins . In addition to established bands, a lot of space is devoted to the underground, especially in the “Fresh Act” section, where a newcomer band is presented every month.

The focus of the reporting is on Scandinavia , as the editor-in-chief Klaudia Weber lives in Helsinki and the DA-CH region, as most of the employees are based there. Due to the bilingual nature of the magazine, the number of visitors is steadily increasing both in Europe and in other countries. The webzine's volunteer team now also includes editors from Brazil , the USA , the Czech Republic and Bulgaria .

Statistical

The print edition of the Stalker was mainly bought by both male and female readers between the ages of 16 and 40. The buyers were mostly musicians, amateur musicians and festival visitors, but also actors, computer freaks, employees from IT and music companies, people from artistic, creative and design professions and much more

The distribution took place using the example of September 2004 with 2000 units to free distributors, 1788 subscribers, 2500 units distributed free of charge at various events, 1000 through sale in fashion stores in Germany and Great Britain and a further 23,000 units in retail. The rest served as a reserve for repeat orders and for free distribution at events. The magazine was also downloaded as a paid PDF (“E-STALKER”) between 1200 and 2400 times per month.
