Margarita Tapia

Margarita Tapia ( Margarita Tapia García ; born November 16, 1976 in Mexico City ) is a Mexican long-distance runner who has her greatest successes in the marathon .

In 2000 she came in 33rd place at the World Half Marathon Championships in Veracruz . In 2001 she became national champion in the 1500 m and won silver in the 1500 m and 5000 m at the Central America and Caribbean Championships . In 2002 she was third in the Maratón de la Comarca Lagunera and Ibero-American runner-up over 3000 m .

In 2004 she won the Houston Marathon and qualified for the Olympic Games in Athens , where she came in 38th.

In 2008 she won the Guadalajara Marathon and in 2009 the Culiacan Marathon . At the Maratón de la Comarca Lagunera she was the first to cross the finish line, but was tested positive for betamethasone during doping control and was disqualified for this violation of the doping regulations and suspended for six months.
