Tony Glausi

Tony Glausi (* around 1995 in Eugene , Oregon ) is an American jazz musician ( trumpet , flugelhorn , cornet also piano , keyboards , composition), band leader and music teacher.

Live and act

Glausi grew up in a musical family and dealt early on with musical genres such as classical , swing , gospel and rhythm and blues . He took piano lessons at the age of six before the trumpet became his main instrument at the age of ten. After studying jazz trumpet , he studied jazz composition at the University of Oregon . He has worked with George Colligan , Norma Fraser , Todd DelGiudice and Ruth Theodore since the 2010s . In 2014 he performed with the Oregon Jazz Ensemble at the Montreux Jazz Festival , Umbria Jazz and Jazz à Vienne . He plays in the Red Pants Trio with saxophonist Josh Hettwer and drummer Ken Mastrogiovanni ( Square One , 2014). He also leads his own jazz quintet and, since 2015, a nine-member funk band with which he plays his own compositions. He also wrote music for small and large jazz ensembles, chamber music ensembles, as well as pop songs , arrangements and film music. Recordings were made with Adam Harris ( Live at the Jazz Station , 2014), George Colligan ( Risky Notion , 2014) and the Jessika Smith Big Band ( Tricks of Light , 2015). He released his debut album Identity Crisis in 2015.

Glausi was the 2014 competition winner in the Jazz Division of the National Trumpet Competition ; the Downbeat honored him for his performances and compositions for small ensemble ( Something to be Remembered ). In 2016 he received the Laurie Frink Career Grant . Glausi is a teaching assistant at the University of Oregon School of Music and lives in Eugene.
