The Stadthalle Reutlingen is a multi-purpose event and concert hall with two main halls for up to around 1700 or 400 spectators as well as additional ancillary rooms. The operation is carried out by the Stadthallen Betrieb GmbH.
location
The building borders immediately to the west of Reutlingen's old town and is located there on the triangle between Eberhardtstrasse, Konrad-Adenauer-Strasse and the left (western) bank of the Echaz .
History of origin
The city hall is primarily intended to replace the old, dilapidated, subsequently demolished Friedrich List Hall from 1938. This burned down in the Second World War and was rebuilt in 1947 using a very simple construction method. Initial plans to replace it with a new building go back to the 1980s.
2002, then Reutlinger failed mayor Stefan Schultes with his plan for a "Culture and Congress Center Reutlingen (KKR)" in a referendum . In the following year he was not re-elected as Lord Mayor.
After a second referendum confirmed the start of planning for a new town hall in 2006, the urban planning ideas competition "Bruderhausgelände - Neue Stadthalle" followed. This was followed by the implementation and architecture competition for the new town hall. In 2008, the architect Max Dudler won this design competition.
In the same year, the municipal council decided to build the Reutlingen town hall . The groundbreaking ceremony took place on November 6, 2009 , and the foundation stone was laid on July 2, 2010 . In the presence of over 500 citizens and numerous guests of honor, a time capsule with a little change, the construction plans for the town hall, the building decision of the municipal council, current issues of local daily newspapers, a press review of the town hall, and the certificate for the laying of the foundation stone were walled in.
In 2011, the Reutlingen municipal council approved additional requests from the manager of the Stadthallen Betrieb-GmbH, Volker Schmidtke. The additional costs for expanding the seating capacity to 1,800 seats, additional stage equipment and more space for a conference use of the hall were decided for almost 1 million euros. Ultimately, the maximum number of places was 1,691.
In 2012, the municipal council decided to demolish the now no longer needed list hall for the period following the opening of the city hall.
The Say Jazz Quartet had their first ever appearance in the concert hall on December 5, 2012, as part of a test concert for technology and logistics, in which around 300 unpaid extras participated in testing the access area, the foyer and the auditorium of the small hall .
The building was opened on January 5, 2013, at the turn of the year a few days earlier, the first public event with the New Year's Eve took place there.
