Franz Hawlata

Franz Hawlata (born December 26, 1963 in Eichstätt ) is a German opera singer ( bass baritone ).

Life

Franz Hawlata first studied musicology and then singing at the Musikhochschule in Munich and took lessons from Ernst Haefliger , Hans Hotter and Erik Werba . At the age of 25 he made his stage debut at the Staatstheater am Gärtnerplatz in Munich, where he became a member of the ensemble from 1988 to 1990.

His international career began in 1992 with guest appearances in Lyon, Amsterdam, Cardiff and San Francisco. Since 1994 he has been engaged at the Vienna State Opera , where he sang roles such as Papageno, Leporello, Osmin, Figaro, Ochs, Pogner, Daland and Wozzeck. In 1995 he sang Baron Ochs von Lerchenau for the first time in Rosenkavalier at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. At the Salzburg Festival he sang Osmin and Don Alfonso. At the Bayreuth Festival in 2007 he was given the role of Hans Sachs in Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg in the new production by Katharina Wagner . Further engagements led him to a. to the Bavarian State Opera Munich, the Teatro Real Madrid, Royal Opera House London, the State Opera Unter den Linden , the Komische Oper Berlin , the Lyric Opera of Chicago and the Opéra National de Paris .

Franz Hawlata is the father of two children and lives in Riedering , Rosenheim district , Upper Bavaria .
