Rudolf Lutz

Rudolf Lutz (* 1951 ) is a Swiss organist , harpsichordist , conductor , music teacher and composer .

biography

Rudolf Lutz received his musical training at the Winterthur Conservatory and in Zurich as well as at the Vienna Music Academy . He studied organ with Jean-Claude Zehnder and Anton Heiller , piano with Christoph Lieske and conducting with Karl Österreicher .

From 1973 to 2013 Lutz was organist at the Protestant Church of St. Laurenzen in St. Gallen. Between 1993 and 2002 he directed the Vocales Basilienses chamber choir and the St. Gallen Bach Choir from 1986 to 2008 . From 1986 he was director of the St. Gallen Chamber Ensemble.

Rudolf Lutz taught improvisation for keyboard instruments at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis and figured bass at the Basel University of Music . In 2006 he was appointed artistic director of the JS Bach Foundation . With a view to the overall performance of Bach's vocal works, he founded the instrumental and vocal ensemble Schola Seconda Pratica , which has performed under the name of the JS Bach Foundation's choir and orchestra since 2011 .

As an expert in historical improvisation practice, Rudolf Lutz holds seminars, gives concerts and makes recordings for various CD labels as well as for Radio DRS and Südwestrundfunk . At the Yehudi Menuhin Festival in Gstaad, he also improvised with George Gruntz and Daniel Schnyder .

  • Schaffhausen anniversary cantata. Text by Karl Graf. Commissioned by the International Bach Society Schaffhausen for the anniversary «25. International Bach Festival ». World premiere on May 31, 2014.
  • Bach in Kirchheim. Wine cantata. Libretto by Karl Graf. World premiere on January 10, 2015 in Kirchheim an der Weinstrasse . Commissioned by the Kirchheim concert winter .
  • “Keep us, Lord, by your word.” Luther cantata . Libretto by Karl Graf. Commissioned work. World premiere with the participation of Miriam Feuersinger (soprano), Markus Forster (alto), Daniel Johannsen (tenor), Matthias Helm (bass), orchestra of the JS Bach Foundation St. Gallen, under the direction of the composer on May 6, 2017 at the Wartburg .
  • Landsgemeindekantata. Choral cantata on the song “All life flows out of you”, for vocal ensemble, transverse flute, oboe I + II, corno, bassoon, strings and basso continuo. Libretto by Karl Graf. World premiere on April 27, 2018 in Trogen.
