The Bach Choir St. Gallen was founded in 1944 by Andreas Juon, who conducted it until 1985. From 1986 to 2008 the choir was under the direction of Rudolf Lutz . Since 2009 it has been led by Anna Jelmorini. With around 65 singers, the Bach Choir is one of the most famous concert choirs in Eastern Switzerland.

In his repertoire of Bach Choir maintains considerable oratorical works from all musical periods such as the Christmas Oratorio by Bach, Handel's Messiah , Haydn's Creation and Seasons , the Elias by Mendelssohn , Verdi's Requiem , Brahms' German Requiem , Mozart's Requiem or 2007 Hermann Suter's Le Laudi . Lesser known works are also performed, such as Michael Tippett's A Child of Our Time- a St. Gallen premiere in 1995 - or Benjamin Britten's Ceremony of Carols and the St. Nicolas Cantata .

In 2002 the work An English Christmas composed by the conductor Rudolf Lutz was premiered. This performance was published as a live recording on CD together with the Oratorio de Noël by Camille Saint-Saëns .

The highlights of the choir's work are the performances in the symphony concerts in the Tonhalle St. Gallen , with works such as B. by Leoš Janáček and Gustav Mahler . The Bach Choir toured Switzerland in 2007 with performances of Haydn's Creation in St. Gallen, Schaffhausen, Zurich, Bern and Basel. The performance in the Tonhalle Zurich was broadcast on December 23, 2007 by Radio DRS 2 as part of the “Concert Evening” program.
