Jean-Claude Zehnder (* 1941 in Winterthur ) is a Swiss organist , harpsichordist and musicologist .

Life

Jean-Claude Zehnder studied at the Conservatory of his hometown, at the University of Zurich and at the Vienna Music Academy with Anton Heiller and in Amsterdam with Gustav Leonhardt . Since 1966 he has been organist and choirmaster at the Evangelical City Church in Frauenfeld and taught organ and harpsichord at the Winterthur Conservatory . From 1972 to 2006 he led the organ class at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis . He was organist on Johann Andreas Silbermann's instrument in Arlesheim Cathedral .

Zehnder published numerous sound recordings. (E.g. Bach's little organ book and the eighteen chorals / Hildebrandt organ in Naumburg / JS Bach on Schnitger's Jacobi organ in Hamburg / JS Bach on the Ahrend organ in San Simpliciano Milan.)
He also performed scientific publications, particularly on Johann Sebastian Bach's early work emerged. For this he was awarded an honorary doctorate from the Technical University of Dortmund in 2002. In addition to his concert activities, Jean-Claude Zehnder works throughout Europe as a lecturer in organ courses and as a juror at organ competitions.

His students include the internationally active Benjamin Alard , Jörg-Andreas Bötticher , Andrés Cea Galán , Attilio Cremonesi, Daniela Dolci, Michael Eberth , Lorenzo Ghielmi , Brett Leighton, Rudolf Lutz , Andrea Marcon , Markus Märkl , Felix Pachlatko , Christian Rieger, Johannes Strobl, Peter Waldner , Elisabeth Zawadke and others.

Zehnder's father became known as a visual artist under the name of Rudolf Zender .
