Peter Waldner

Peter Waldner (born January 13, 1966 in Mals in the South Tyrolean Vinschgau , Italy ) is an organist , harpsichordist , fortepiano player, ensemble leader , specialist in early music , historically informed performance practice and historical keyboard instruments, as well as musicologist and Germanist , who lives in Austria .

Live and act

Waldner comes from Mals in Vinschgau and passed his Matura in 1985 as a student at the Johanneum in Merano . He received his musical training at the Tyrolean State Conservatory under Reinhard Jaud, Hans Kofler, Bojidar Noev and Günther Andergassen and at the Institute for Musicology at the University of Innsbruck under Walter Salmen. He also studied with Gustav Leonhardt in Amsterdam, with Hans van Nieuwkoop and Kees van Houten on the historic organs of Amsterdam, Haarlem, Alkmaar and Helmond, with William Christie in Paris and with Jean-Claude Zehnder at the Schola Cantorum Basiliensis . Masterclasses also took him to Luigi Ferdinando Tagliavini , Jesper Bøje Christensen , Kenneth Gilbert , Harald Vogel , Pierre Hantaï and Daniel Roth .

Waldner works in Innsbruck as a lecturer for harpsichord, organ, figured bass , stylistics and performance practice of early music at the Tyrolean State Conservatory and at the branch of the Mozarteum University in Salzburg, and since 1988 as an organist and church musician in the Mariahilf parish church. His concert activities have taken him to most European countries. As a harpsichordist, organist, clavichord and fortepiano player, as well as ensemble leader, he has been a guest at numerous festivals for early music. Radio recordings were made with ORF, RAI and the Dutch broadcasting company KRO.

Waldner has been recording early music CDs on historical keyboard instruments since 1994 ; they appeared in the self-published, the label Extraplatte Vienna, the ORF (Austrian Broadcasting Tyrol, Vorarlberg and Old ORF Edition Music ) in the CD series music museum of the Tiroler Landesmuseum Ferdinandeum, the Austrian label fra bernardo and the Belgian label Organroxx . In 2011 he initiated his own CD series Taste Joy , which presents masterpieces and key works of keyboard music from the Renaissance, Baroque, Classical and Early Romantic periods - interpreted exclusively on historical keyboard instruments or their copies.

Waldner is the artistic director of the concert series for early music Innsbruck evening music (1988 to 2013: AbendMusic - Lebensmusik ) and founder of the Tyrolean ensemble for early music vita & anima . He performs regularly as a soloist on the organ, harpsichord, virginal , spinet , clavichord , lute piano and fortepiano; he interprets music from the Renaissance , Baroque , Classical and Early Romantic periods.

Since 2009, Waldner has dedicated himself to the rediscovery of unknown or forgotten baroque music from Tyrol, which is in European music archives, in concerts and CD productions with his ensemble for early music vita & anima and in close cooperation with the music department of the Tyrolean State Museum Ferdinandeum, headed by Franz Gratl. Waldner also worked with numerous ensembles and specialists in early music.
