Gottfried Graf von der Goltz (born June 1, 1964 in Würzburg ) is a German violinist and conductor .

Life

Gottfried von der Goltz is the son of the violinist Conrad von der Goltz (* 1928) and the pianist Kirsti Hjort (1931–1990). The jazz pianist Christian von der Goltz (* 1959) is his older brother, the cellist Kristin von der Goltz (* 1966) his younger sister.

After an early apprenticeship with his father Conrad von der Goltz in Würzburg and with Ramy Shevelov in Hanover, he continued his training at the New York Juilliard School and with Rainer Kussmaul in Freiburg im Breisgau.

At the age of 21 he became a member of the NDR Symphony Orchestra . In 1987 he co-founded the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra . He shared the role of concert master and at the same time artistic direction with Petra Müllejans until the end of the 2016/17 season and has since been responsible for the musical direction of the orchestra together with Kristian Bezuidenhout .

From 1997 to 2004 Gottfried von der Goltz was professor for baroque violin at the University of Music in Würzburg . On October 1, 2004 he became professor for violin / baroque violin at the Freiburg University of Music .
