Petra Müllejans

Petra Müllejans (born March 8, 1959 in Düsseldorf ) is a German violinist , conductor and teacher, she is co-founder of the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra, which is mainly known from the field of historical performance practice .

Live and act

Petra Müllejans received her first violin lessons at the age of eight at the Meerbusch Music School . She also graduated from high school at the age of 17 in Meerbusch. At the age of 12 she was accepted as a young student at the Düsseldorf Music Academy and continued her studies there as a full student after graduating from high school. The violin pedagogue, musicologist and Bach researcher Helga Thoene was an important pioneer for her in Düsseldorf . At the age of 21 she switched to Rainer Kussmaul at the Hochschule für Musik Freiburg , she had viola lessons with her professor's brother, Jürgen Kussmaul . The Kussmaul brothers, as well as their Düsseldorf teacher, paved the way for her not only to use the modern violin but also the way to early music and the baroque violin . Studies with Nikolaus Harnoncourt in Salzburg complemented this training.

Petra Müllejans is professor for baroque violin at the Frankfurt University of Music and also teaches at the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences .

As a versatile musician, Petra Müllejans performs alongside music from the 17th and 18th centuries with her group “Hot and Cool” at concerts and CD recordings with klezmer , tango , czardas and jazz music .

Freiburg Baroque Orchestra

Together with college friends, she was a major co-founder of the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra in 1987 , whose musical direction she shared with Gottfried von der Goltz . At the end of the 2016/17 season she handed over leadership to Kristian Bezuidenhout , but is still a member of the ensemble. She also appears as a soloist and chamber musician, among others with the “Freiburg Baroque Consort”, which consists of members of the Freiburg Baroque Orchestra.
