Life

Pierre Hantaï is a son of the painter Simon Hantaï . After training as a harpsichordist with Arthur Haas , Hantaï studied for two years with his role model Gustav Leonhardt in Amsterdam. From the mid-1980s he began to play under his direction. He also worked frequently with Sigiswald Kuijken and Philippe Herreweghe . Since the mid-1990s he has preferred a career as a soloist and conductor of small baroque music ensembles , of which he temporarily directed his own “Le Concert Français”. Hantaï is regarded as a virtuoso, at the same time orthodox exponent of the conventional baroque repertoire.

His two brothers Marc Hantaï and Jérôme Hantaï are also well-known musicians in the baroque scene.

In 1995 he received the Erwin Bodky Award for Early Music.
