State final exam

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

[obsolete] The state final examination ( Italian Esame di stato , German Matura , It. maturità , from the Latin maturitas ‚die Reife ', maturus ‚ reif') describes the maturity examination after completing a higher education in the Italian school system and corresponds to the Matura or the federal German Abitur . The graduates arecalled Maturanten in South Tyrol.

The matriculation examination is taken after completing the 13th grade (5th grade, upper grade). The exam will be taken at the school the student last attended. The subject of the examination is three written examinations as well as an interdisciplinary, final oral examination. Basically, the exams cover all subjects of the past school year (except religion).

The acceptance is carried out by six teachers, three internal and three external, who form an examination committee and an external examination president (usually a director of another secondary school).

Admission

Since the reform of the system in the 1998/99 school year, every pupil who completed the 13th school year and received a positive assessment in all subjects has been admitted to the examination. The only exception are students who are not classified because they have not completed schoolwork . 12th grade students are also eligible to participate if they have achieved a grade of 8 (good) in all subjects.

Furthermore, private individuals (external parties) can also take the examination if they have submitted an application in good time.

procedure

The final exam consists of four parts, three written exams and an oral final exam.

  • First written exam: This includes a six-hour work in Italian in South Tyrol in German for the German school. There are three types to choose from: A text analysis , an essay or a report , or a discussion . The topics are specified by the Ministry of Education in Rome and, for South Tyrol, partly by the Education Office for the German or Ladin school.
  • The second written examination also includes a 6-hour paper, but the content differs from school type to school type and includes a major subject of the respective school type. The examination subject is announced several months before the examination. Possible subjects are, for example, Greek , Latin , mathematics , business administration , electronics and computer science .
  • The third written exam in South Tyrol is taken in a second language: Italian for candidates from German-speaking schools in South Tyrol and German (or a foreign language ) for those from Italian schools. The bundle of fans was abolished.
  • Finally, there is an oral examination (examination interview), with random questions about all subjects being asked. At the request of the candidate, this examination can be initiated with a presentation by the candidate (the duration of the presentation is limited to ten minutes). If the exam candidate decides to do so, he must work out his specialist topic in writing and submit it to the committee before the end of the course. The candidate has three options:
    • The in- depth topic deals with a more detailed topic from the previous school year. The written documentation for this comprises a few pages.
    • The thesis elaborates on any topic in detail, the documentation for it comprises a large number of pages (usually between 30 and 80 pages long).
    • A developed project can also be presented at technological technical colleges (commercial high schools ) . Here, too, the subject and form can be freely selected, but usually the project corresponds to the specialist knowledge imparted by the school (for example electronic projects such as robots , or developed programs ).

Up to 1998 two written exams were taken and in South Tyrol the second language of instruction was only examined orally. In the oral exam, only two out of four subjects were examined, with the candidate choosing one himself and the other being assigned by the commission (communicated the day before). The commission consisted of six external teachers and one internal teacher.

Grading

The final grade of the exam is expressed in hundredths. To pass the exam, at least 60/100 are required, the maximum grade is 100/100. The scores are as follows:

  • 15 points are to be obtained for the first and second written examinations, 10 points are to be obtained for the third. So a maximum of 40 points
  • The oral examination can be assessed with a maximum of 20 points.
  • Each candidate can collect up to 40 points for the so-called “educational credit” in their school career. These points result from the grade cuts of the 11th - 13th school year. A maximum of 13 points are awarded in the 11th and 12th grades and 15 points in the 13th.
  • The Matura Commission can also award 5 extra points, but in order to receive these, the candidate must meet special criteria, some of which are specified by the state, and some of these are created by the Matura Commission.

Until 1998 the maximum number of points was 60, the lowest positive mark was 36.
