Ilkka Pikkarainen (born April 19, 1981 in Sonkajärvi ) is a Finnish ice hockey player who was last under contract with KalPa Kuopio in the Liiga .
Career
Ilkka Pikkarainen began his career as an ice hockey player in the youth department of HIFK Helsinki , for whose professional team he made his debut in the SM-liiga in the 2000/01 season . After he completed a full season in professional ice hockey for the first time in the following year, the attacker was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2002 in the seventh round as a total of 218th player by the New Jersey Devils . After he was still on the ice in the SM-liiga for the HIFK until 2003, he played from 2003 to 2006 in the American Hockey League for the Devils farm team , the Albany River Rats . The Finn then returned to Helsinki for another three years before receiving a contract with the New Jersey Devils for the 2009/10 season . On October 5, 2009, the Finn made his debut in the National Hockey League in the game against the New York Rangers .
In January 2010 Pikkarainen moved from the Devils to HK CSKA Moscow in the Continental Hockey League . By the end of the season he prepared two goals in a total of nine games. For the 2010/11 season he joined Timrå IK from the Swedish Elitserien , for which he played until January 2012. At the end of 2011, he was loaned to Grizzly Adams Wolfsburg for the Spengler Cup 2011 .
In January 2012 he moved back to Finland to the Pelicans , for which he was active until the end of the 2013/14 season and in 2012 reached the Finnish runner-up. From May 2014 he was under contract with TPS Turku before moving to the Ravensburg Towerstars in the second German division, the DEL2 , for the 2018/19 season.
