Foundation for Western Ethics and Culture

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Foundation for Occidental Ethics and Culture (STAB) is a Swiss foundation and is dedicated to the realization and further development of the values that the founders describe as occidental . It was founded in 1968 by Hans Robert Jenny and his wife Trudy as a foundation for occidental reflection . In 2005 the name was changed.

Since 1977, the foundation has awarded an annual recognition prize of 50,000 Swiss francs to personalities and institutions who have made a contribution to promoting Western ethics and culture. This prize is one of the best endowed culture prizes awarded in Switzerland. The foundation also supports, on a smaller scale, projects and campaigns which it regards as a contribution to Western ethics and culture and which are not supported by public funds. It finances its activities primarily from the proceeds of the funds made available to it by the founders and donors.

reception

The Swiss press reports on the award ceremony.

In 2011, the historian Adrian Zimmermann criticized the WoZ for the fact that the foundation had "repeatedly" honored personalities from the far right of the political spectrum in addition to less controversial cultural workers. Zimmermann names in particular the behavioral researcher Irenäus Eibl-Eibesfeldt , who biologically justifies xenophobia, the psychologist Christa Meves , who is close to the Association for the Promotion of Psychological Knowledge of Human Beings , and the publicist Pirmin Meier .
