René Scheu

René Scheu (* 1974 in Zurich ) is a Swiss publicist , philosopher and translator . Until the end of 2015, he was the editor-in-chief and publisher of the liberal magazine Swiss Month (formerly Swiss Monthly Books ). He has been head of the feature section of the Neue Zürcher Zeitung since 2016 .

life and career

After graduating from high school (type B), Scheu studied philosophy and Italian studies in Zurich and Trieste . During his studies he wrote for the Neue Zürcher Zeitung and later for the Tages-Anzeiger . From 2002 to 2007 he worked as a background editor under Gottlieb F. Höpli for the St. Galler Tagblatt . In 2007 he was with a thesis on the post-Marxist Italian philosopher Pier Aldo Rovatti at the request of Helmut Holzhey and Gianni Vattimo at the University of Zurich doctorate . In the same year René Scheu and Suzann-Viola Renninger edited the Swiss monthly magazine . At the end of 2010 he became the sole editor and remained the sole publisher and editor-in-chief until the end of 2015. Scheu is also an advisory board member of the Strategiedialog21 think tank .

Scheu has translated various books from Italian in the fields of media policy, contemporary philosophy, psychoanalysis and philosophical anthropology . In 2009 he was awarded the Foundation for Western Ethics and Culture for his political essays .

From September 2013 until the end of 2015, Scheu was a columnist for NZZ am Sonntag . Scheu has been the head of the feature section of the Neue Zürcher Zeitung since January 2016 , succeeding Martin Meyer , who has retired.
