Hans Letsch

Hans Letsch (born March 31, 1924 in Rheineck SG ; † October 18, 2015 ; entitled to live in Dürnten ) was a Swiss politician (Free Democratic Party). He represented the canton of Aargau in both the National Council and the Council of States.

Life

The son of a Methodist preacher graduated from the teachers' college in Zurich from 1939 to 1944 . He graduated from the University of Zurich with a degree in economics from 1947–1951 as Dr. oec. publ. from. Study visits led him to the London School of Economics and Political Science , to the Financial Research Institute of the University of Cologne and to the Ludwig Erhard Foundation .

From 1952 he was head of financial control in the canton of Aargau . After he was finance inspector for the city of Zurich from 1959 to 1961, he moved back to Aargau and took over the management of the cantonal financial administration for the next seven years. From 1968 he was Secretary General of the Federal Department of Economic Affairs. In 1970 he switched to the private sector and was President of the Board of Directors until 1996, and later Vice President of the Board of Directors of the household appliance company V-Zug . 1985–1989 he chaired the Swiss Employers' Association . He was also a member of the board of directors of Sandoz , Metall Zug , Dätwyler Holding , Hero and Jura-Zement . He was adjunct professor for finance and economic policy at the University of St. Gallen .

politics

For the Liberal Democratic Party , Letsch represented the canton of Aargau in the National Council (1971–1979) and in the Council of States (1979–1987). In 2006 he expressed himself in a lecture in autumn 2005 at the Athenaeum Club Aargau / Solothurn How much leadership our democracy can take, critical of the exercise of power by the Federal Council and propaganda by the authorities.
