Max Schmidheiny Foundation

The Max Schmidheiny Foundation at the University of St. Gallen was founded on April 18, 1978 by the industrialist Max Schmidheiny on his 70th birthday. The purpose is to maintain and further develop the free social and economic order.

Freedom price

Since 1979, the foundation has honored personalities and institutions with its freedom award who have made a particularly outstanding contribution to the goals pursued by the foundation. In the past, the award winners included Muhammad Yunus , the Economist magazine, and in November 2006, Kofi Annan, in his role as UN Secretary General, received the 2003 Freedom Prize. The annual St. Gallen Symposium provided the stage for the award ceremony .

Board of Trustees

The Board of Trustees is chaired by Thomas Schmidheiny , one of the founder's sons. Andreas R. Kirchschläger, President of the St. Gallen Foundation for International Studies , acts as a delegate. Further members of the Board of Trustees are
